LED: Lighting Of The Future?

According to a Pike Research survey, nearly half (46%) of the $4.4 billion commercial lighting business will be given to LED lighting. LEDs will reach an inflection point in the next five years, guaranteeing greater efficiency and drastically lower costs. Outdoor stationary lighting will be the next lighting sector affected by LEDs, followed by retail, office & institutional buildings.

Chevy Volt Receives Sticker Price

General Motors has announced that its first mass-market electric vehicle, the Chevy Volt, will cost $41,000 before rebates. However, government tax credits and rebates will make the prices of electric vehicles more attractive. There's a $7,500 federal tax credit for electric vehicles and in California, a rebate through the Air Sources Board will lower the cost by another $5,000.

2010's Top Ten Green Buildings Named

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has named the world's leading buildings in sustainable architecture and green design. They range from a green prototype single-family home in New Orleans and a mixed-use high rise in Oregon to an international research university in Saudi Arabia. These outstanding buildings showcase new technologies like daylighting, geothermal heat pumps, natural ventilation and passive solar heating. The awardees come from six states--California, Connecticut, Louisiana, New York, Virginia & Oregon--as well as Saudi Arabia & Canada.
